Breathe

Right now, I am supposed to be vacationing. But, I am thinking about writing for my blog, how long it has been since the last post, if anyone is still reading them and getting inspired and/or helped by them, etcetera. It has been on my mind almost 24/7.

I have trouble relaxing. I am not a very good "vacationer." I need a plan for almost everything. Does this sound like you? Do you have trouble just breathing? Why? Why do some people struggle with relaxation, vacation, and chilling out?

My thoughts are this: when we have a thought-out, intricately detailed plan it makes us feel that we still have a little bit of control over our lives. Maybe it is because we think that if we think of each and every possible scenario then we can avoid any hurt that may happen to come our way.

What some do not realize, though, is that no matter what we plan we will never be in control over what happens in our lives besides our own thoughts and actions.

I think it is a splendid idea to have a period of 15-30 minutes every day (more if you are able) to simply breathe. If we do not have this time, sooner or later we will become frustrated with those around us, ourselves, and the world. In turn, we are no longer at peace. When you own your breath, no one is able to steal your peace.

What? You do not have time? Do it on your way to school, work, church etcetera. Instead of listening to the radio, listen to the sound of your own breathing. Do not think about what you will be doing tomorrow because tomorrow will take care of itself (Matthew 6:34). You do not have to take this day in all at once, but rather one moment- one breath at a time.

     Breathe.

     Just breathe.

Have you ever psychologically (not literally) held your breath because you were mad, angry, upset at someone else? Did you hope that it would hurt them? Did it? Ever do something out of spite? Well, do not hold your own breath, deprive your own self of oxygen, and expect the other person to feel the burn.

Having trouble wrapping your mind around this? Ask God to infuse His life within you, make you a living tabernacle of His peace.

Lord,
we come before you now
with our timidness
pain
fear
rejections
hurts
impatience
sorrows
joys
sufferings
thoughts
stress
and cautions.
We ask this of Thee:
enter our minds, souls, hearts, and bodies today.
Free us from the chains
that tie down our hearts.
Rid us of the negative things that put us into straighjackets.
Infuse us with Your love,
peace
joy
mercy
patience
justice
and care.
Make our hearts like Thine Own.
Take control over our days,
weeks
months
years
hearts
souls
bodies
minds
and life as a whole.
Show us Your care by reaching down
and carressing our broken hearts.
Let these requests be for Your glory.
Amen.

Omnia majoram ad Dei gloruim.
